Atlanta Girls' School Presents a Series of Lectures and Events to Celebrate 10th Anniversary
9/25/2009
Atlanta, September 21, 2009 – This school year marks the 10th Anniversary of Atlanta Girls’ School. Throughout 2009-2010, Atlanta Girls’ School will present a series of events to commemorate its 10th Anniversary. The events planned this year are modeled after programs in which students participate and are designed to show the unique and innovative education students receive at AGS. All events are open to the public. Tickets are available to purchase online at www.agstenth.org or by contacting Molly Garvin at 404.604.2811 or mgarvin@atlantagirlsschool.org.
Atlanta Girls’ School 10th Anniversary Celebration will begin with a Celebration of Thought Lecture Series. The series was developed to complement many of the curricular highlights of an innovative Atlanta Girls’ School education including art, media, science, diversity, government, the environment and technology. The first lecture of the Celebration of Thought series will begin on October 6 with Duane Neil, a national authority on media literacy.
To underscore the importance of service and citizenship, Atlanta Girls’ School will organize a Celebration of Service Day on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day where parents, students, faculty, staff and friends from all around Atlanta will give back to the community in exchange for the support our city has given us over the past ten years.
On March 21, Atlanta Girls' School will hold a Celebration of Learning daylong seminar for parents, faculty, staff and the broader Atlanta community to explore new ideas in a series of short classes led by a variety of experts from Atlanta and beyond. Attendees will be able to participate in three or four small seminars over the course of the day as well as a lecture by Jonah Lehrer, author of Proust Was a Neuroscientist and How We Decide. Featured presenters include: Elizabeth Vale, Executive Director of the White House Business Council; Phyllis McGrab, Georgetown University professor and UN expert on women and girls in Afghanistan; Elizabeth Blake, General Counsel for Habitat for Humanity, discussing the global housing outlook; Lady Pauline Perry, Member of the British Parliament; Gail Harrity of the Philadelphia Art Museum; and many more.
Atlanta Girls’ School will close out the tenth anniversary year in style with a black tie gala featuring special guest speaker, Daniel Pink, author of a trio of provocative, best-selling books on the changing world of work including A Whole New Mind, Johnny Bunko, and his new book, Drive.
