MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Welcome to Atlanta Girls' School.  Since August of 2000, we have offered a new vision of education for young women.  The combination of community, culture and climate found at AGS makes the educational opportunity for girls that we offer unique in Atlanta.  We transform the lives of our students, and just a quick perusal of these pages will show you how.  If you are new to the concept of a girls' school, take the time to explore the sources on our home page.  They will open you to the world of single gender education for girls.
 
Yet we are so much more than a girls' school.  The world we face is on the cusp of monumental changes in human knowledge – changes that may make the world our grandchildren inhabit as different from ours today as ours is from the Stone Age.  We embrace these changes. 

AGS provides a strong college preparatory curriculum – just read the pages here and see where our students go to college.  But we recognize that we need to provide more.  To be successful in the changing reality our children will face, the grasp of specific information, dates or facts will be far less meaningful than the ability to learn and the confidence to adapt.  We teach our girls the confidence to lead – because they all lead, in the classroom, on the sports field, and in the arts.  We teach our girls about being a part of the community in the only way that assures meaningful understanding – working in it.  We teach our girls the meaning of different cultures that one only learns through first-hand experience.  And we teach our girls the real meaning of living and working in a diverse community where people are of different races, faiths and backgrounds.  This will be the world they inhabit and it is the world today at AGS.
