Planning – Sophomore

During the second year of upper school, a student continues to build upon the academic foundation from prior years at AGS. In this particular year, a student may choose to add a second world language or take on the challenges of honors mathematics and science. What remains paramount is achieving the strongest grades possible while pursuing the most rigorous course of study possible. During October, students will take the PSAT test. This is strictly a practice session, but the scores will be normed against other high school sophomores across the country. During November, students will take the PLAN test, the practice ACT test.

Summer Planning:
Summers provide an opportunity for participation in things that will enrich study and co-curricular experiences. Having a summer job, being part of community service work at a local hospital or another nonprofit of interest, or taking on the challenges of Outward Bound can all be good ways to approach the summer change of pace. What matters most is that summer experiences are seen as another way to enrich college preparation. Many colleges and universities view summers this way. Students should do so as well.
