Begin the school year with strong attention to course work.
September
Attend Senior College Night
Register for the October or November SAT I or SAT II
Meet with the College Counselor to review college list
Write to colleges or go online to request any needed applications
Decide which teachers to ask to write letters of recommendation
Begin scholarship search
Meet with college representatives that visit AGS
College Trips
October
Submit College Application List to the College Counselor
Attend regional college fairs, receptions, etc.
If applying Early Decision/Early Action, schedule an appointment with the College Counselor for approval.
Complete and submit ED/EA application. if approved.
Prepare backup applications, (ED/EA applicants)
Begin writing regular decision applications
Register for the December/January new SAT I, if applicable
Take October ACT or SAT Itest, if applicable.
November
Take SAT I or SAT II if registered. Have scores sent to colleges and to AGS.
Continue completing applications
If applying for Financial Aid, obtain Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) from on-line (FASFA.gov)
If colleges require it for financial aid, submit the PROFILE at Collegeboard.com
Make sure first quarter grades are strong
Submit applications when completed (Bring all materials to the Office of the Head of School.)
December
Take SAT I if registered. Be sure to have scores sent to colleges and to AGS.
Submit all applications with January deadlines by December 1.
Focus on semester exams!
January
Complete and submit FAFSA (Financial Aid Forms) as soon as possible after January 1
Give the Guidance Counselor Office all Mid-Year Grade Report Forms
Take SAT I, if appropriate
All applications must be submitted to the College Counselor by the end of month.
February, March, April
Plan to visit colleges for return visits
Wait for decisions and be supportive of classmates
Before May 1
Decide on one college and notify colleges not selected! Send in tuition deposit.
May
