Planning – Junior

Begin college selection process, question, explore, investigate.

October

  • Take the PSAT/NMSQT
  • Attend recommended college fairs
  • Take a college trip tour
  • November

  • Maintain and achieve the strongest academic results possible
  • December

  • Receive results of PSAT/NMSQT
  • Review material sent with test scores and consult with the College Counselor to determine how improvements can be made.    This is excellent preparation for the SAT.
  • January

  • Attend individual college planning conferences
  • Begin researching colleges
  • February

  • Attend AGS Junior College Night with parents
  • Complete College Questionnaire
  • Begin researching summer academic experiences, volunteer work,      jobs, etc.
  • March

  • Register for the May or June SAT I or SAT II's
  • Begin developing a list of college choices, and request  information
  • April

  • Select senior year courses which are academically challenging
  • Attend a college fair to get more information on possible schools
  • Take SAT I, or SAT II, if available
  • May

  • Take SAT I test
  • Take SAT II (subject tests), if applicable
  • Register for the June SAT I, if applicable
  • Begin thinking about which teachers, coaches and others may be      asked to write letters of recommendation in the fall
  • June

  • Take the SAT I, if applicable
  • Take SAT II (subject tests), if applicable
  • Write to colleges of interest or visit their web site to request      applications
  • Plan summer and/or fall college visits
  • July/August

  • Continue to refine college list
  • Complete required and recommended summer reading
  • When visiting colleges, keep a journal detailing the visit
