At AGS, our formal college counseling program begins during a student's junior year. However, starting in the 9th grade, students are encouraged to understand the college admissions process, attend college counseling events with their parents throughout the year, and to set appropriate goals for themselves as they consider college applications.
All upper school students are also invited to attend presentations by visiting host representatives from colleges and universities so that they can become better acquainted with the programs available to them. Each year, AGS hosts over 50 different colleges and universities on the school campus.
Junior Year: All students travel together to visit colleges to start their thinking on the types of schools they would like to consider. Juniors are also encouraged to take advantage of the SAT preparatory course offered during Winterim.
Senior Year: In the fall of the senior year, students have a week when they can visit campuses free of classroom commitments. They work closely with AGS's college counselor on completing their applications and meeting all deadlines throughout the fall and winter.
