| ABOUT AGS
In the late 1990's three Atlanta women discovered that their city was the only major metropolitan area in the U. S. that did not have a single-gender school. Three years later AGS opened its doors as the first single-sex school for girls in Atlanta in more than 30 years. Serving grades 6 through 12, it is the realization of the Founders' vision for a school whose curriculum is based in the knowledge of girls' learning style. Classes are small, learning is collaborative and hands-on, and the curriculum is often integrated across disciplines. Our classrooms encourage active participation in discussions, intellectual confidence, and heightened involvement in math, science, and technology. At AGS, girls fill all student leadership roles allowing them to develop the skills of productive leaders. The school's commitment to cultural, racial, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic diversity is embodied in our student population, who come from across greater Atlanta.
At AGS we believe in a college preparatory course of study derived from the liberal arts tradition and focused on girls meeting academic challenges. When combined with a broad, dynamic co-curricular program in athletics and the arts, students develop an appetite for learning, a will to succeed, and a delight in one's own and others' achievements.
To fully appreciate the uniqueness of a girls' school education, it must be witnessed first-hand. We invite you to visit our school.
